Cybersafety Connections November 2021 Vol#41

- Both the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) agree on the importance of cybersecurity training.
- Beyond training, prevention, and detection mindset is needed.
- Software and hardware allies are our helpers.
AICPA AND ACFE agree on Training
From both the perspective of the AICPA and ACFE , training at all levels of the organization is a much-needed step in the fight against cyber-attacks. This is not to say with training there would be no more incidents of cyberattacks.
Beyond Training
We have been dwelling on the fight for cybersecurity. Basic protection and detection tips have been considered from strong password to multifactor authentication to firewall and anti-virus software and the human elements.
Now even with the training, human error may still occur where someone is not paying attention or out of curiosity clicks on a link that opens the door to cyberattacks. Beyond prevention, detection measures are also important since early detection when there is an attack may prevent further damage to victims.
Software and Hardware
There are hardware and software like firewalls, threat detection tools, and zero-trust security authentication to help in the cybersecurity fight, and currently, anti-virus software can detect viruses encrypting files, and fight them. This sort of detection software would be great to have in our arsenal in the fight against cyberattacks. That would be man and machine working together.
It is not a matter of IF but When there would be a cyberattack, so we have to stay vigilant with the protection and detection measures in the fight against cyberattacks after training.
