What happened?
Morris Hospital and Healthcare Morris, IL commenced investigations after the hospital detected unusual activity on its computer network, which suggests that an unauthorized third party may have accessed the system.
What data was compromised?
The Royal ransom group gained unauthorized access to the Morris Hospital and Healthcare system network which is separate from the electronic medical records systems used for patient care and that patient’s data was stored in the network that was affected by the cyberattack.
Who is responsible for the breach?
The Royal ransom Group is claiming responsibility for the cyberattack. On May 22. 2023, the Royal ransom group added Morris Hospital and Health care to its data leaks site along with some samples of files it claimed to have stolen in the cyberattack.
How has the impact of the cyberattack been mitigated?
How to prevent data breaches and phishing
Prior to the cyberattack Morris Hospital and Healthcare centers implemented serious cybersecurity measures that help limit the severity of the cyberattack. Morris Hospital and Healthcare center is currently investigating the cyberattack with the help of independent cybersecurity forensic experts. The investigation involved reviewing each individual file on the affected server to see if sensitive data has been compromised and this process is called E-Discovery.
The cyberbreach did not affect patient care or hospital operations.
