- This week from Konbriefing , blogging about a past cyberattack on a dating platform Coffee Meets Bagel in San Francisco, California, USA.
- Love business under attack possibly due to poor cybersecurity posture?
- The people affected were users of the dating website referred to as “serious daters” or those trying to sign up for their services.
- Here is what was done to mitigate loss.
What happened?

According to CMB-Coffee Meet Bagel ,Coffee Meets Bagel, a dating platform catering to users in search of a serious relationship, recently confirmed that their system was hacked, resulting in a week-long outage. And that meant users were not able not able to use the app.

The only detail we have is that Coffee Meets Bagel (CMB) cybersecurity was not enhanced enough to prevent cyberattacks.
Who was affected?

As mentioned above in What happened, users of the dating service or “serious daters” accounts were affected as they were probably unable to sign in or use the app.
How was loss mitigated?

Pre- and Post Disaster Management
CMB moved quickly and took the following steps to mitigate the loss from the cyber-attack.
- CMB quickly notified law enforcement then restored a secure environment for their technology team to rebuild their system from offline backups. The platform has been back online since September 3.
- The Coffee Meets Bagel team is also working to further enhance company cybersecurity to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.
- The company is extremely apologetic for the disruption caused to their users and hopes to make it up to new and existing CMB Daters alike.
- CMB added 1,000 beans to any accounts that were active 14 days prior to the outage to make up for lost time.
- Additionally, the company extended chats and subscriptions by seven and 14 days, respectively.
- The company reassured its users that none of their matches should feel like they were ghosted because the platform was down for everyone during the outage period.
- Although the company launched a thorough investigation to understand the full scope of the incident, it is still ongoing.
