Ransomware Cyberattack involves extortion software that locks the computer and prevents the rightful user from accessing the computer or computer network and then demands ransom for its release. The ransomware gang may also threaten to leak sensitive information to get victims to pay up. Ransomware is not new and has been around and on the rise.
CyberSecurity Vulnerability
The Darkside is part of what is called “ransomware as a service.” This Ransomeware Cyberattack is exploiting the Cybersecurity vulnerability of our aging energy infrastructure and systems in need of hardening. Our infrastructure, systems, and network need to be made more secure by reducing the surface of vulnerability to Cyberattacks.
Possible Impact on Gasoline Cost
The ransomware cyberattack depending on how quickly the impact is resolved could create a gasoline shortage which would then impact gas prices and travel costs. Oh, and I was not hoping to buy an electric car just yet!
