Cybersafetyconnections November 29th, 2022, Vol #94

This is our last and final tip in this series that ran from September 2022 through November 2022. As we step into the last month of the year, expect recaps and reinforcement of best practices.

  • Work with banks and payment processors for proactive prevention tips and measures.
  • Read the contract document between you and the bank or payment processor to know what to do.
  • Recommended practice of isolating payment systems from other internet activities.
  • Suggestions on tips are welcome from readers.

Bank and Payment Providers as allies

Work with your bank or payment processors to ensure the most trusted, validated tools and anti-fraud services are in use.

Read the agreement on Your responsibilities

Read your agreement with the bank or payment processor to find out what other additional security obligations are required. You both have responsibility for cybersecurity.

Guard your payment systems

The best practice that is recommended is to Isolate payment systems from other, less secure programs and not to use the same computer to process payments and browse the Internet.  I know some organizations prevent browsing the internet and other activities on work on computers.
